OdessaIt is a city and port of the Black Sea with more than one million inhabitants. Its location and population is the fifth largest city in Ukraine, the largest commercial city in the country and the largest city in the coast of Black Sea.

The architectural style of Odessa, influenced by French and Italian, giving a Mediterranean feel to the city is often referred to as the Pearl of the Black Sea.

The city and the port of Odessa was officially founded in 1794 by a decree of Catherine the Great as the main seaport in the south of the Russian Empire.

In 1905 Odessa workers experienced a revolution. The famous film The Battleship Potemkin director S. Eisenstein refers to this event, and includes one of the most famous scenes in movie history, where hundreds of Russian civilians are killed in a stone staircase. The slaughter never happened in reality, but the film ended up convincing many people that had been real and for many years, the Odessa steps have been a tourist attraction.

Odessa’s economy is based primarily on trade, goods and industrial production, the tourism sector is underdeveloped. In the Communist era, was a place of rest and summer for members of the party.
